SAINTS SENTINEL   September 28, 2018

ABC Bible Verse for next week takes us to the letter “E”.  It reads, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above.”  James 1:17a.
 
Chapel Notes   This week’s chapel offering was $54.75.  Our final total for Unity Lutheran School is $196.98.  Next week: The reading from Luther’s Small Catechism is the Seventh Commandment.  Mr. Urban is scheduled to conduct the service.
 
Baptismal Birthdays We have no Baptismal birthday observances for the week of September 30-October 6.

School Nutrition Program Position St. Peter’s Lutheran School is seeking to fill a part-time position in the school nutrition program.  Main duties would include assisting in preparing the noon meal, helping serve the noon meal, and clean up following the meal.  Help is needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  It is a paid position.  If anyone is interested in the position or has questions, please call the school office at 618-349-8888 or contact Mr. Urban at 618-267-3235.  You may also email him at lurban.spls@gmail.com.
Mid-Quarter Reports If anyone has not returned their child’s or children’s mid quarter report to the respective classroom teacher, please do so as soon as possible.  Also please make sure to sign it.               Thank you.
 
Picture Day  Picture day is next Monday, October 1.  Order forms were due today.  They may, however, still be turned in on Monday.  You also have the option of ordering online.  The reminder coming home today also contains the online order instructions.  Individual pictures will be taken of all students PreK-Grade 8 as well as staff members.  These are the pictures that will be used for the school yearbook.
 
SCRIP The SCRIP order will be going in next Monday, October 1.  If you still wish to place an order, please do so by contacting Amy Schaal no later than Monday morning.  If you have any questions concerning SCRIP, also please contact Amy.
 
S.A.F.E. Presentation Our first S.A.F.E. program for this year is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2.  The program is entitled “Body Safety”.  Presentations are given to students in grades PreK-8.  Forms were sent with all students K-8 this week.  The form gives a brief description of the program.  A presentation will be given in PreK, K-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8.  A reminder – only return the bottom of the form if you DO NOT want your child to attend the presentation.
 
 Reading Buddies  Reading Buddies meet this coming Tuesday, October 2.  The session will be held in the school gym beginning at 12:30 p.m.
 
PTL to meet The next meeting of the PTL is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, October 2.  It will be held in the 7th-8th grade classroom beginning at 7:00 p.m.
 
Butterbraids Fundraiser  The PTL’s butterbraid fundraiser is coming to a close.  Please have all orders turned in by Wednesday, October 3.  They may be turned in to the school office.  You are also asked to make sure that the money for the orders and money collected match.  Orders are scheduled to be delivered on Friday, October 19.

Basketball Player/Parent Meeting
There will be a short basketball player and parent meeting Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m.  Please make an effort for at least one parent to attend.

Thursday, October 4 Team Color Day Students are encouraged to wear their team color T-shirts.
 
Book It begins on October 1 and ends on March 31.  This is a reading program sponsored by Pizza Hut and available to students in grades K-6.  Each teacher has set a goal for her students.  This goal is noted on the letter each child is bringing home today.  When a child reaches his/her goal for the month, the teacher will reward them with a certificate for a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut.  Let’s get reading and enjoy some pizza!!!
 
Blues Book Worms also starts on October 1.  This program is sponsored by the St. Louis Blues Hockey Team.  For this program a student must read a total of 1,000 minutes by January 31.  Each student receives a monthly tracker recording sheet which is turned in to the teacher at the end of each month.  Every student who reaches the goal of 1,000 minutes will earn a buy one, get one ticket voucher to the Blues Bookworms game of their choice on Tuesday, March 19 vs. Edmonton or Monday, April 1 vs. Colorado or Thursday, April 4 vs. Philadelphia.  So, let’s get reading Books you read for Blues Bookworms can also count for Book-It.
 
 Volleyball Changes
C games have been added to both the Home and Away games with Trinity Centralia (Oct. 1 & Oct. 9).  They will start at 5:15.
The game listed for Monday, Oct. 13 should read Monday, Oct. 15.
A JV game has been added when we play at Trinity Stewardson on Saturday, Oct. 27.  Schedule TBA.

SAINTS SENTINEL              September 21, 2018

ABC Bible Verse for next week is found in Psalm 37:45.  It reads, “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.  Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.”
 
Chapel Notes   This week’s chapel offering was $31.03.  Our September total to date is $142.23.  Our Catechism reading will be the Sixth Commandment.  Pastor Frazee is scheduled to conduct the service.  This will be our final offering for Unity Lutheran School.  Let’s see if we can reach a $200 total for the month!
 
Baptismal Birthdays Two students will be observing Baptismal birthdays this coming week.  Baptismal remembrance blessings to Mitchell Brauer and Olivia Brauer.  Their observance is September 25.

Picture Day is Coming Picture Day is scheduled for Monday, October 1.  All students, PreK-Grade 8 received an order form this week.  If someone did not receive a form or has been misplaced, please contact the school office at 349-8888.  Please return the order forms to the school office no later than next Friday, September 28.  You also have the option of ordering online.
 
Butterbraids Fundraiser PTL Fall Fundraiser is continuing. Please fill out one order form per family.  Please have orders turned in by October 3, 2018.  Please make sure money for the orders and money collected match!  Orders will be delivered to the school on Friday, October 19.  Please pick up order in playroom when you pick up your child/children from school.  If you are unable to pick up your order on this date, please make arrangements ahead of time.  PTL does not have freezer space. 
 
SCRIP continues to do SCRIP sales.  This month’s orders are due no later than Monday, October 1.  If you have any questions, please contact Amy Schaal. 
 
Mid-Quarter Mid-quarter reports were sent home today with all students in grades K-8.  Please sign the report and return it to the classroom teacher on Monday, September 24.  The mid-quarter report gives the students an opportunity to make some improvements in their grades before the report card is issued at the October Parent-Teacher conferences.
 
Scholastic Summer Reading Program Congratulations to Weston Hunley, Addy Ruholl, Annie Ruholl, Emmie Ruholl, Andrew Reynolds and Bailey Wodtka and their families for participating in the Scholastic Summer Reading Program and making a commitment to read over the summer.  Together they read a total of 4,492 minutes from May to September.  Students in participating Illinois school’s read a total of 3,898,884 minutes.  The top Illinois school had a total of 855,232 minutes read (Shorewood, IL).
 
Youth Meeting The youth group will meet this Sunday, September 23 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. in the Fallout.  Following the meeting, there will be an informational meeting for the parents of those youth planning to attend the National Youth Gathering next summer.
